Regatta Tennis Tournament
Friday 19th August - Saturday 27th August
, from 9.30am
Coronation Park, Dartmouth
We are proud to once again be sponsors of this year’s Regatta Tennis Tournament – the 48th – a combination of Closed and Open tennis tournaments.
There over 20 events running for nine days, played on the four macadam surfaced courts at Coronation Park and at the Britannia Royal Naval College.
The Closed Tournament
This is for all standards of local players resident in the parishes of Dartmouth, Kingswear, Townstal, Strete, Stoke Fleming, Blackawton, Dittisham, Cornworthy, Moreleigh and Halwell, as well as Services personnel based at BRNC. Regular players in Coronation Park social tennis groups are also eligible.
It runs from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st August, with Finals on Sunday 21st, Friday 26th and Saturday 27th August. Events include Women’s and Men’s Singles, Women’s, Men’s and Mixed Doubles and 45+ and 60+ singles and doubles events. There are also Junior singles and doubles events and we welcome and encourage young players who would like to join in. We offer Consolation events for early round losers, schedule permitting.
The Open Tournament is supported by the Lawn Tennis Association, the singles being Grade 4, County level, standard. Entrants include players seeking ranking points, but other players come to enjoy our beautiful venue, and are very welcome. Playing tennis by the River Dart in Regatta Week is quite special. Linda Hill is returning for her eighth year as Tournament Referee.
The Open Tournament starts on Monday 22nd August with play every day until Finals on Saturday 27th August. Events include Women’s and Men’s Singles, Women’s, Men’s and Mixed Doubles, with some 45+ and 60+ Singles and Doubles categories.
We also run a very popular Family Doubles event for any under 16 junior playing with an adult relative. This is a fun afternoon (Wednesday 24th August). All ages and standards are welcome and it is great to see young players. So come and join in!
Play starts daily at 9.30am and runs until approximately 6.00pm. Our courtside refreshment marquee is wellstocked daily with home-made cakes and goodies to sustain players and spectators alike. It is worth dropping by even if you are not a tennis fan!
Finals Saturday is 27th August, with the trophy and award presentation at about 4.30pm. We look forward to seeing you.
The Tournament is again loyally sponsored by Dartmouth’s own Café Alf Resco in association with Pro-Direct Tennis of Newton Abbot, the country’s largest online retailer of tennis clothing and equipment. Why not visit Café Alf Resco, located on Lower Street Dartmouth, and fill out your entry form over a hearty breakfast. Visit www.cafealfresco.co.uk for opening times, menus and “Live, Love, Tennis”.
