Dawn Chorus & Spring Arrivals at Berry Head, Brixham
Sunday 5th May, 5.30am - 8.30am
Join local bird expert Mike Langman at Berry Head. The headland should be alive with birds just back from a winter in Africa desperately announcing their territories and hoping to attract a mate. There may even be the chance of a special sighting in early May.
The frenetic Guillemot colony will be noisy with birds coming and going from their nesting ledges. The very best time to hear bird song and to witness migration in full swing is at sunrise, so it will be an early start. The event will be finished off with a delicious breakfast at the Guardhouse Cafe, Berry Head. Breakfast includes the full Monty, tea or coffee, toast, butter & rhomemeade marmlade.
Meet: Berry Head main car park
Cost: £13.50 per person, includes breakfast
Booking essential: Call 01803 520022

Ten Tors Challenge 2012
Dartmoor
It's that time of the year again, to put all that tough winter training on the moor into practice!
Ten Tors is here again!!
The Ten Tors Challenge is organised by the Army at Okehampton Camp. It is assisted by the Royal Navy (with manpower and helicopters), the Royal Air Force and the Dartmoor Rescue Group: between them they oversee the participants and ensure that none comes to lasting harm.
In parallel with the Jubilee Challenge, the Ten Tors Challenge takes place annually in May and is limited to 2,400 individuals – four hundred teams of six teenagers. The teams, depending on age, face hikes of 35, 45 or 55 miles (56, 72 or 88km) visiting ten nominated tors over two days. The teams must be self-sufficient, carrying all that they need to complete their route safely despite the terrain and the weather. The latter can be very changeable and at times quite extreme, and success or failure can depend very much on the extent to which a team has been trained for all eventualities.
Big, huge good luck to the Dartmouth teams...we know you've worked extra hard this year and had a ton of support from the town. We're proud to sponsor your tshirts!
Good Luck....pack the suncream & bobble hats!!!
Friday 10th May from 7pm

The Totnes Good Food Market is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 10am to 3pm. Now in it’s third year, the market is the biggest monthly producers & farmers market in the Westcountry.
Regularly attracting over 50 fine food traders each month, the Totnes Good Food Sunday market has become the biggest fine food and drink market in Devon and is rapidly becoming the largest in the South West.
Totnes Good Food Sunday is now officially the best. Food lovers from all over the region voted for the market in the Annual Devon Life Food & Drinks Awards and at a ceremony held at Sandy Park, Exeter the title of ‘Best Farmers Market in Devon’ was awarded to the TGFS.
Launched in June 2010 with just over twenty producers, the market has grown month by month both in reputation and popularity. It attracts food lovers from all over the region, with three-quarters of its traders coming from within a 30 mile radius of Totnes. The market has also been award-nominated and warranted mentions in local and national newspapers and magazines.
